What is Iyashikei?
Iyashikei (癒し系) is a Japanese term meaning “healing,” used to describe works created with the intention of soothing the audience. This genre often centers on gentle, low-conflict settings—frequently alternative worlds—where nature, quiet moments, and life’s small joys take focus. In that same spirit, Iyashikei the game is designed to reflect these values through its gameplay and events.
The game itself is a private, invite-only, slice-of-life panfandom experience, blending modern technology with elements of fantasy. While moments of horror, mystery, or adventure may occasionally appear, the heart of the game lies in exploring how everyday kindness, connection, and found family help characters endure and overcome hardship.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below. We’ll do our best to respond as quickly as possible.
Characters of any age from any canon are welcome to apply, and original characters (OCs) are warmly encouraged as well.
Iyashikei permits multiple instances of the same character when such coexistence is supported by canon. For example, several incarnations of the Doctor from Doctor Who may exist at the same time.
Duplicates may also be allowed when a character’s portrayals stem from canons that differ substantially in plot or interpretation. As an example, Maleficent from the live-action films, the animated film, and Once Upon a Time could all reasonably appear in the game simultaneously.
The game also supports duplicates in cases where a canon features significantly different alternate endings. Malleable protagonists may have up to three versions based on a single canon. For instance, there may be no more than three Warriors of Light from Final Fantasy XIV in the game at any given time. Players should clearly explain in their application how their version differs from the others.
Characters who are deceased in their original canon are still eligible. They may be restored either to perfect health or to the physical state they were in while alive, at the player’s discretion, which should be specified in the application.
Anthropomorphic, cyborg, mythical, mechanical, and other non-humanoid characters are fully permitted without alteration and will not be humanized in any way.
If a character is exceptionally small (such as a mouse) or extremely large (such as a house), the Council will assist in providing suitable housing to meet their needs. While this accommodation may not extend to the rest of the city, support will be ensured.
Real-life individuals and celebrities, as well as historical figures who are not portrayed within a fictionalized work (such as Fate, Shakespeare in Love, or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), are not eligible for application.
Finally, while morally gray characters and villains are welcome, the Council will not allow any attempts to seize control of or undermine the city. If you have a specific character arc in mind, you are still encouraged to apply.
At this time, Iyashikei is NOT accepting CRAU characters, though this policy may be revisited in the future. We also are NOT accepting fan-made canon characters at this time (an OC that is inserted into an existing fandom).
Original Characters (OCs) are absolutely welcome, provided they originate from your own original world, setting, or universe, or from an open roleplay framework such as Dungeons & Dragons, World of Darkness, or other tabletop roleplaying systems.
Each in-game player receives one invitation per month. A permanent additional invitation may also be earned through the rewards page. To invite someone, a current player must submit the form found on the invitations page. Once approved by a moderator, invitations remain valid for one month from the approval date.
If you don’t currently know anyone in the game, you’re still welcome to request an invitation by submitting a mod invitation form for yourself.
New players may submit a character reservation on the reservations page once their invitation has been accepted. A reservation holds the character for a period of two weeks from the date submitted. Please note that your invitation must be approved BEFORE you submit a reservation, and it must be linked within that reservation.
Players who are already in the game do not need to include a link to their original invitation, and can simply submit a reservation on the reservations page.
Yes. As part of your application, you are required to link to at least one thread from the current Test Drive that includes a minimum of five (5) in-character comments. This allows the application moderators to better assess your application and see how the character functions within the game’s setting.
Please note that these comments do not need to come from a single thread—they may be spread across multiple Test Drive threads.
Invitations are open permanently and are valid for one month from approval
Reservations are open permanently and are valid for two weeks from the date submitted.
Applications are open permanently and are generally processed on the weekends
Test Drives are posted on the first day of every other month.
Activity Checks will be conducted on the last five (5) days of each month.
Iyashikei has a once-a-month activity check held the last five (5) days of each month to confirm that you’d like to remain in the game. There is no specific comment count required, players simply need to check in by submitting the form on the check in post with their character’s name, journal, canon, and a brief summary of what the character has been doing in-game for that month.
Players who are on a hiatus of two (2) weeks or longer and are officially listed on the hiatus page are not required to participate in that month’s activity check. Please note that hiatuses cannot be applied retroactively.
Characters who do not check in will be dropped, but you are welcome to reapply after one month.
At this time, a player can play up to four characters. Additional slots can be earned from the in-game reward system.
Players are allowed to apply for two characters in a given month.

OOC QUESTIONS
Iyashikei runs on a 1:1 system. Every OOC day for you equals a single IC day for your character.
Iyashikei's also functions on a typical 12-month calendar solar calendar, with a 365 day yearly cycle.
No matter what you may be doing, time seems to freeze all of a sudden. And, in a swirl of smoke and glitter, a rather scruffy and huffy-looking brown owl appears with a scroll in his talons inviting you to Iyashikei. At his insistence, you have no choice but to take the scroll.
Once you take the scroll from the owl, he disappears in the same shimmer of glitter and smoke, but not before the owl mutters something about this being a waste of his time and good-for-nothing wizards sending him on pointless errands. Did he just speak? It must have been your imagination, it doesn't matter, you can't check because the ornery bird is gone.
Opening the scroll, inside will explain the goals of the Council and how you will be helping the greater good. If you are ready to come, all you need to do is say some form of agreement. The same swirl of smoke that took the owl will now take you to Iyashikei.
The thing is, the scroll can't really understand tone, so even a sarcastic "yeah, right?!" will be taken as verbal consent to participate. However, should your character decline, time will unfreeze and the scroll will disappear; the memory of the owl and the scroll seemingly gone from your mind entirely.
After agreeing to the contract, characters arrive in the City Hall Main Chamber. You might feel a bit wobbly, feel free to have a seat. If your character is gravely injured, a Welcome Committee member will have medical staff fix them right up. If that is not necessary, the member of the Welcome Committee will explain what happens next.
If you agreed by mistake, the Welcome Committee is happy to help you fill out the paperwork to go back home. Though, they warn, it takes at least a month to be fulfilled... if it even gets there, sometimes things get lost!
But, if you are ready to enjoy your stay, housing and education are free, but food and clothes are not. The Council has provided you with a small amount to get you started, but after that, you will need to find some way to pay for things.
As time was frozen when they sent the message to you, there was no way to pack anything. So whatever clothes and items you had on you when the owl appeared is what you have upon arrival.
Things like cars, motorcycles, and other large machines, nor animal companions could not make the trip with you.
Now, take your first bold step into the city of Iyashikei! The short answer is: Yes, and there is no power nerfing.
The longer answer is: Yes, but we ask that you respect the setting of the game and that any game-breaking powers be used appropriately.
If you would like to do something on a large scale/game-wide scale with those powers, please discuss it with the mods first.
Additionally, any powers such as telepathy, mind control, and any other powers involving someone else's characters MUST have a permission post.
2. No matter how powerful a character is within any canon, the Council, when working together (and they're almost always working together) is more powerful. If needed, they can fix anything should something happen.
They are not looking to add to their numbers, but they thank you for your interest!
Yes, the Council doesn't intend to hold anyone hostage.
A character can leave any time they would like. A character need only fill out a request to leave at City Hall. However, a player can have the paperwork be constantly delayed, lost, incorrectly filled out, etc. to ensure their character stays longer. A character can even designate how long they would like to leave for, which brings us to:
For any canon updates please be mindful of spoilers. Additionally, a canon update cannot occur until 30 days have passed from the premier of said canon point. You may submit your update by filling out the Canon Update form on the Hiatus/Drop/Update page.
We understand that life happens! A standard hiatus can last up to 1 month, however, we do understand if there are extenuating circumstances, please don't hesitate to reach out to a mod or have someone reach out on your behalf, if needed. To put in a hiatus please fill out the HIATUS form on the Hiatus/Drop/Update page and follow the directions there.
In the event that you feel that Iyashikei just isn't the right place for your character, we understand and hate to see you go. We do ask that you please fill out the Drop form on the Hiatus/Drop/Update page and follow the directions there. You can absolutely pick up dropped characters!
The way for them to come to Iyashikei is always the same. Upon their return, it is up to a player whether they remember their time upon returning to Iyashikei or not.
We appreciate all of the effort and time that you, the players, put in to our collaborative hobby. And so there are both IC rewards and OOC rewards for your contributions to, and activity in, the game. From special items for your character from home, to extra invitations to your friends, and even extra character slots.
In-game rewards can be earned through in-game interactions as well as game-wide events, and Re-Quests given by the Council and NPCs. Further details can be found on the rewards page.
For a character to start their own business, you must go to the Rewards/Requests page and submit a reward form for a business license for that character, filling out the appropriate information.
As part of the reward for obtaining a business license, the character will be provided with a suitable location and building for their first business, which will be added to the Locations page. While a character may choose to open or operate multiple businesses, only one business license is required. Any additional or specialized buildings must be requested separately.
We ask that you please use the Mod Contact post to reach out to the mods with any questions, problems, or concerns. Remember the mods are volunteers and do have normal jobs and responsibilities outside of the game, so please be patient with us. We will respond as quickly as we can to handle you inquiry or concern.

SETTING QUESTIONS
Iyashikei is a world that closely resembles the modern world, but with a mix of magic and fantasy and more environmentally adoptive aesthetic and mindset. A pastel solar punk, if you will. There are canals and water taxis, high speed bullet trains, but also tall archaic universities and humble cottages. The world of Iyashikei can be basically divided up into two parts. Iyashikei City, which sits on a massive island or, 'the Main Hub' in the center of a large bay, and the Outer Rim. While there are many smaller islands in Iyashikei Bay, nothing is close to the size of Iyashikei City.
For information about Locations, Housing, or Education please check their respective pages. The Council is a diverse assembly of beings and entities that genuinely care about everything occurring everywhere at once, especially the happenings of this world. It consists of a variety of members, including humans who resemble typical wizards, fairy godmothers, witches, mythical humanoids, scientists, and ordinary people—or at least they appear to be just regular folks.
In addition to humans, the Council includes animals such as a giant talking lion and a teal platypus wearing a fedora. There are also fantastical creatures that don't resemble any known Earth animals; for instance, one looks like a white rabbit but has a large jewel embedded in its forehead. Furthermore, the Council comprises a few robots and androids as well.
The Council is incredibly busy but they can be found at the occasional event and can be interacted with at said events.
Characters CAN meet with the Council outside of game-wide events as well, but that does require coordinating with the mods beforehand.
In Iyashikei, technology and magic work hand in hand, often becoming indistinguishable from one another. The technology available is on par with what can be found in any modern city, including a high-speed metro system, vending machines, electricity, even computers and video games. Of course don't forget about the Glimmer that your character receives from the Council upon arrival as well.
There are multiple means of transportation in Iyashikei: cars, motorcycles, bikes, buses, even airships, and more! But the two most frequently used are the Metro-Rail and the canals. The Metro-Rail goes all over the city and Outer Rim of Iyashikei, with the longest line being from the Farmlands all the way to the base of the Iyashikei Mountain Range Visitor Center. It's not uncommon for many people to take the Long Line for a beautiful scenic ride and a relaxing day.
The Iyashikei Council Content Guidance Framework is as follows:
Purpose:
Iyashikei is a world founded on kindness, healing, and found family. While it allows for depth—including grief, fear, and hardship—the Council believes that individuals thrive best when they understand the emotional and thematic weight of what they are engaging with.

Iyashikei's currency is called Stardust
Stardust is used for everything everywhere to purchase whatever you may need in Iyashikei and can also be used to request items from home.
Stardust can be earned in various ways. You can acquire Stardust through completing Re-Quests, performing acts of kindness, having a character take on a standard job, or even by attending school! Every interaction between your character and another earns at least a small amount of Stardust. However, the more significant the act of kindness or the task completed, the greater the amount of Stardust they will earn.
There are two ways to transfer Stardust:
1. A simple handshake.
2. A more technological, touch-avoidant method involving hand scanners. In this case, you place your hand on the scanner, which collects the necessary amount.
Every store or booth offers the second option for the sake of comfort and cleanliness.
As for where Stardust is kept. The Stardust is stored on your skin! It leaves a shimmering or softly glowing residue. For some, it appears as glitter, while for others, it resembles bioluminescence. The more a character accumulates Stardust without using it, the more glittery or glowing they become. Some characters might even shine like their own nightlight!
Characters who prefer to hide this visible display of Stardust may request a storing device from the Council. However, they should understand that this device functions like a wallet and can then be stolen or misplaced. To apply for one, please fill out the form on the REWARDS page.
These aren't grand quests like finding the long lost princess kidnapped by a witch. As the Council said, small acts of kindness are the key.
Sometimes quests might be helping an NPC find their lost cat, a temporary fill-in for the brand new coffee shop that is understaffed, helping run a booth at the festival, and other quests of that nature. These will show up as part of the test drives and events that come up in game.
Iyashikei boasts all sorts of education, both traditional and nontraditional. Apprenticeships are also quite common be it in mechanics, sorcery, farming, and everything else in between. All the Council members agreed that education should be free. However, those who run the apprenticeships ARE allowed to deny taking on new trainees or end the apprenticeships as they see fit.
There are many elementary schools and high schools both in the Outer Rim and Main Hub, but only one university. Only one high school and one elementary school offer dormitories as does the main university The rest are all-day schools.
For more information please check the EDUCATION page. Physically, no, because time was "stopped" when they got the scroll. They will return home just as they were brought in.
Iyashikei has every plant and animal you can find on Earth. With both animals and plants being found in their usual biome or region. Despite the owl that gave you the initial scroll and some of the Council members themselves, the plants and animals are standard Earth animals and do not talk.
Canon-specific creatures such as pokemon, Chocobos, tribbles, etc. would need to be requested on the rewards page.
Mythical beings and creatures such as dragons, qilin, atotolin, fairies, mermaids, the phoenix, tanuki, unicorns, etc. are also in this world but they are incredibly difficult to find and don't live anywhere near the city itself. Every once and a while, a Re-Quest shows up asking to see if they exist and to bring proof.
The world of Iyashikei is not a stranger to magic, being home to several powerful practitioners and perhaps having a fairy god mother or two on the Council. As such the people of Iyashikei are accustomed to all different forms of magic, and their are even classes on Magic at some of the different schools and universities throughout the city. Characters who have magic will find that their magic functions much the same way that it did back home.
Courses on the theory of magic and Magical Foundations are taught across all levels throughout Iyashikei. And there are various different ways to learn about magic and how it work in theory.
So, Yes, characters who did not previously have magic, as well as characters who already possess magical abilities, are able to learn new forms of magic in Iyashikei. To do so, characters must enroll in a school of magic at Yadah University as a reward/regain. Through study, practice, and in-character progression, they may develop new skills or expand their existing abilities.
Learning magic is treated as a gradual, in-game process rather than an instant change, allowing for character growth, discovery, and meaningful development over time. See Advancement Requirements on the Magical Schools page for more information.
In Iyashikei, consequences are determined by the severity of the crime committed. Minor offenses—such as petty theft, vandalism, or disturbing the peace—will typically be addressed through community service.
More serious crimes, particularly those involving violence or harm to multiple individuals, including the assault or murder of another person (whether a native or player character), will result in a formal tribunal and trial before the council. Punishments in these cases are decided on a case-by-case basis and tailored to the specific circumstances of the incident. This may range from mandatory counseling and therapy, to the stripping of any powers or abilities, or even feeling the pain of each of their victims.
Any plot involving murder or significant violence must be brought to the mods' attention and approved prior to being played out, so that appropriate consequences for all involved characters can be planned in advance.
In Iyashikei, death is reversible—but never trivial. When an individual dies, a magical imprint of their spirit, bound to the invitation that brought them to Iyashikei, preserves their consciousness and prevents true spiritual loss. This imprint allows the Council to restore the body through a careful combination of regenerative medicine and gentle magic. Revival typically takes one to two days, and the individual awakens weakened, disoriented, and emotionally vulnerable rather than fully restored.
Following revival, the individual is legally required to remain hospitalized in a Revival Care Ward for a full week, with no exceptions or early discharge. This mandatory observation period exists because rushing recovery can result in severe physical, emotional, spiritual, or magical harm. Throughout the week, patients receive ongoing medical care, emotional support, and continuous monitoring to ensure the body and spirit properly reintegrate. Visitors are permitted during this time.
Repeated deaths carry lasting consequences. A second death results in the complete loss of all accumulated stardust. Upon a third and any subsequent deaths, the character will begin to lose key in-game memories, rewards, and regains, reflecting the increasing strain placed on the spirit with each revival. If your character experiences a second or subsequent death, please reach out to the mod team. We’ll work with you to plan the outcome in a way that maintains the intended slice-of-life tone of the game.

After arriving you will be handed your Glimmer. The Council debated about magic mirrors, owls, pigeons, combadges, holo-phones, and everything in between but before anyone could really decide, one of the younger scientists put the Glimmer in front of everyone and it was a settled issue.
The Glimmer can do: private and public text, audio, and video calls as well as anonymous messages It can be linked to computers, televisions, and laptops. It has access to all sorts of video games and music, and has all the other basic functions one would find on an advanced phone like calendar applications, weather apps, calculator, alarm clocks, etc. Glimmers can be customized inside and out to best suit the needs and aesthetics of their owners. Though no one quite knows how it creates a mental link besides the scientists on the Council.
Should a character lose it, if the mental link function is turned on, the character need only think about it and a literal "hot" or "cold" feeling on their palms will guide them to it. If it's off, however... well, maybe put out a Re-Quest? Someone is sure to have seen it and turned it in to City Hall.
With Glimmer, you get immediate access to StarLink, the most popular app on Glimmer and in Iyashikei in general. StarLink is used by everyone in the city. Glimmers have as much magic as they do technology wrapped up in their making, thus making them, as far as anyone has tried, unhackable.
Characters will get to decide their own usernames. If they cannot decide, the username will auto-generate one for them. However, other characters will not be able to know a character's real name unless introduced.
There is not, no. The same magic that brought you here has switched your language to the native tongue of Iyashikei. This magic allows everyone to understand everything else. However, it's not the most advanced spell, so a character could actively choose to speak and write in their native language with just a small bit of effort.
Fret not! The Glimmer has a writing and text to speech function. A character need only write, type, or think the message they want to convey and it will be transmitted to other devices or out loud.
Yes! Thanks to some of the scientists on the Council, there is a mental connection between your character and their device should they so need that function! It does need to be actively opted into on the device. Once the function is turned on, they need only think of what they want to write and actively think of the word "send" or "enter." Otherwise, this function stays off on a character's device...though, every once and a while it turns itself on with system updates. This, of course, has led to some more... interesting or intrusive texts being sent out, but it's easy enough to turn back off.
